Our largest customer is a telecoms systems reseller based in London providing a range of services including Panasonic and Mitel PBX telephone and fax systems and internet lines for data and VOIP as well as hosted telephony services.
Providing a single bill for all services including calls, equipment rental, and maintenance is a consideration but the main commercial driving force is the ability to profit from every part of the range of telecoms services that they provide. Initially the PBX systems were reprogrammed to send voice calls out through a telephony provider (which has changed several times over the years) and a profit was made on each call.
The need to provide a competitive voice tariff has reduced the profitability of calls-only billing and the next stage was to take over the line rental from BT with a significant increase in profitability and turnover. The Redware Billing Platform fully supports BT Openreach billing and processing of the DEDS file although we do not provide an interface to WLR3 provisioning.
VOIP has been introduced over the last few years in a low key fashion and our reseller connects traditional PBX systems together with VOIP to provide low cost intra-company calls and access to alternative IP call providers. Redware Telecoms Billing allows multiple sources of call data allowing a mix of traditional and VOIP telephony providers and the ability to specify separate pricelists for each line provisioned for a customer. It is a simple process to setup a discount so that all calls between different offices of a single customer benefit from a low call rate.
Hosted telephony has added to billing requirements with alternative sources of call details (sometimes directly from an Asterisk box) and requirements to incorporate handset rental and internet access and SIP trunking to a bill. Redware fully supports the billing requirements for hosted telephony whether you bill directly from Asterisk or from call details from a IP telecoms provider.
